6 Sep 2021, 3pm The Baum Interviews This week we have celebrated Rosh Hashanah in lockdown for the second year. One of the most enterprising projects was the Project High Holiday in which the rabbis and rebbetzins joined in providing sustenance for the mind body and spirit across the shules. Project Shofar was an initiative of the Rabbinical Council of Victoria to bring the sound of the shofar to everyone. This week we bring you the Rosh Hashanah prayers with hazanut from the rabbis and chazanim of the various shules in Melbourne. It was the initiative of Rabbi Moshe Kahn, director of Chabad Youth and DaMinyan, and put together with endless energy and sleepless nights by Zalmy Glazner, president of Hamayan. All that remains is to wish everyone a gmar hatima tova and well over the fast.
31 Aug 2021, 2pm The Baum Interviews This week as we hear the horrifying news from Kabul, and the talks between Biden and Bennet, when the camera caught Biden nodding off, Here in Australia, NSW covid is soaring and we are in lockdown for another week. As we contemplate Rosh Hashanah, another one in lockdown, the shuls are preparing. Shofar blowing will be available anywhere, it seems. We are in the middle of Selichot, the penitential prayers we say before Rosh Hashanah. At this time, we are making a dwelling place for G-d in this world. And, when you think about it while being at home and davening from there, it’s the optimal closeness to Hashem so states the Baal Shem Tov. While we daven in shul to proclaim Hashem’s glory, Hashem forgoes this so that we will have the maximum glory in our homes. Our interview this week is Dr Michael Carr-Greg adolescent psychologist. He gave a talk on mental health and covid especially in regard to young people. We are all aware of the impact on mental health on everyone, especially young people. What are the signs? When should you seek help? Where to go? As we enter the high holyday period, The Baum Interviews will be in recess until September 30. There will be mostly music and repeat episodes.
